Calling all Nigerians
You’ve heard it all before about Nigeria: corruption, staggering unemployment rate, civil unrest, power supply issues, bad roads…and the list goes on. There are many negative things that could be said about Nigeria – about any country really. But a little positivity goes a long way. There are some positive things that could be shared about Nigeria, many ideas that could be crowdsourced for A BETTER NIGERIA!
What is a better Nigeria?
A better Nigeria is Nigeria with functioning government, not government packed with self-serving politicians. A better Nigeria is a country where people have paved, accessible roads to take them to work, to schools, and to/from their daily endeavors. A better Nigeria is led by people who invest in quality healthcare, sound infrastructure, and functional transportation system. A better Nigeria nurtures the potential of her youth, makes her people feel safe and secure, and gives her people the resources they need to function, sustain and succeed in life. A better Nigeria believes in the power of her children to rebuild and rejuvenate her.
That is MY vision of a better Nigeria.
Nigeria as a people, we all have a part to play in building a better Nigeria. We can hope, dream or even crowdsource ideas for improvement but nothing is going to get done if all we do is only talk about it. I am not quite sure yet what my role is in building a better Nigeria. But one thing for sure is I know I HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY. It’s something I think about often, especially having traveled much and seen what many countries have going for them. Nigeria could reach that level – if her people are willing to participate.
Like the saying goes, ‘it takes a village to raise a child,’ – it takes Nigerians abroad and those living in the country to effect real, meaning change. It’s our responsibility as Nigerians.
There are people who are already making a difference in their own ways. One of those people is Rotimi Olawale, co-founder of youthhubafrica.org. Read his blog post titled My role in creating a better Nigeria. Another blog I came across in my search of people building a better Nigeria or promoting the cause is LadybrilleNigeria’s blog post Nigeria @ 50: My Hope For a Better Nigeria. A.B.N – which stands for A Better Nigeria – has a unique spin on reviving our nation. Watch the youtube video for the full scoop!
If you could change anything about Nigeria, what would it be?
That is the million-dollar question that I’ve asked myself one too many times. It was interesting and empowering to see that A.B.N touched on that same question. It’s definitely something to think about. And if you can answer that question, you’ve started your role in building a better Nigeria.
“As the nation celebrates 50years today, for me and for you, the question really is, how far have we come as a nation; and are we doing our part to build a better country for Nigeria’s children?” ~ LadybrilleNigeria (from blog post Nigeria @ 50: My Hope For a Better Nigeria.)
Thanks very much for making a reference to me in your blog-post. I am sure there are quite hundreds of people doing much more than i am to make a difference in Nigeria. I am therefore honoured to be mentioned.
Thanks for visiting my blog! It’s empowering to come across Africans who are making a difference in Nigeria, and other parts of Africa. I hope to find more Nigerians, especially those in the diaspora, who are creating real impact in Nigeria.
