It baffles me when I see advertisements targeting young women – 20-something to early-30 year olds – selling us anti-wrinkle creams and such nonsense. It’s even more shocking when I come across young women who actually spend money on those creams and such nonsense.

Not that a 20-something year woman should be worrying about wrinkles but if you’re caught up in that dilemma, there are better ways to get the same, if not better results. The answer is HOMEMADE beauty products using natural, organic ingredients.

I’m not the person to talk about ‘beauty products’ because if I had a beauty product bag, all you’d find in it are homemade body lotion, an eyeliner and a lip gloss, which I always carry with me like a kid does a security blanket. But I can give you some tips on how to make your own body lotion.

If you are interested in making your own body lotion, here are some key benefits of homemade body lotion using natural, organic ingredients. Making your own body lotion is healthier, can be inexpensive – and best of all, it’s EASY!

  • It’s healthier because you can control the type of ingredients you use whether those are herbs or oils.
  • You can use real, organic products.
  • Some of the ingredients might be expensive but a whole batch will last a long time.
  • It’s inexpensive compare to store-bought products, which are not as healthy.
  • It’s as easy as mixing the ingredients into one container.

It’s easy to make your own body lotion using healthy, chemical-free ingredients. You can buy the ingredients at your local foods store or organic food stores.

How to go about it:

  1. Have a goal or target in mind. Think of what you want the lotion to do for your body. For example, prevent/relieve dry skin, achieve even skin tone, etc.
  2. Research the type of ingredients you need for a lotion that will help you prevent/relieve dry skin or achieve even skin tone.
  3. If for some reason you can’t use all the ingredients you have found, maybe because of allergies, then see if you can substitute something else for that ingredient.
  4. It’s shopping time! Gather your ingredients and get mixing!
  5. Mix the ingredients! From your research in #2, you should have an idea about how to mix the ingredients and in what amount.
  6. VOILA! It’s just that easy!!!!

I’ve been making my own body lotion for a couple of year now and I love it. Here’s a recipe for one of my favourite homemade body lotions:

The combination of cocoa butter and coconut oil smell is intoxicatingly soothing and the lotion gets the job done. It moisturizes without being too greasy – and locks in the moisture for over 12 hours. I love the way it hugs my skin and keeps it soft.
